Modern ties to cantorial music

Leonard Cohen’s: You Want it Darker, features a cantor and choir from the songwriter’s Montreal synagogue. It was released just days before Cohen died. The title track, which won a Grammy in 2018, is in the tradition of mournful cantorial singing. The artist’s son Adam Cohen produced this track to haunting effect, juxtaposing his father’s minimalist vocal delivery with the sublime sounds of Montreal’s Cantor Gideon Zelermyer and the Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue
